Unlock what your
scientific data
already knows.

Hi, I'm Dmitri Visser.

Every scientist I have worked with didn't want to manage their data; they wanted to do science.

Biological research generates a tremendous amount of data, and keeping track of sample provenance and data becomes a real burden when the tools seem to work against the people using them.

Building R&D data platforms that give scientists that focus back is what drives me.

Your scientists and instruments are already generating the data. The question is whether your platforms are built to surface the scientific insights.

02 ABOUT

Dmitri Visser

I'm a lab informatics specialist and solution architect with a background in life sciences research and over five years of experience building digital ecosystems for labs and R&D organisations.

I hold a PhD from the University of Tübingen, where I worked at the bench before moving into the platforms that serve it. I've been on that side of the bench, and it's why I understand what scientists need, and can tell the difference between what they ask for and what they mean.

At CureVac, I architected the digital platforms for early discovery and pre-clinical R&D. I led the implementation of LIMS, ELN, and SDMS platforms across GxP and non-GxP environments. I connected analytical instruments, designed integration architectures, and guided departments through digital transformation from the ground up.

What I've found over the years is that the biggest risk in lab informatics is rarely technical. It's building something that looks right on paper but doesn't fit how people actually work. I stay close to the science to make sure that doesn't happen.

Let me be your bridge between the scientist and the informatics. Scroll down to find more about my solutions for your lab or organisation.

How can I help you?

I help life sciences organisations get more value from their scientific data by building the platforms and integrations that make it useful to the people generating it.

Every engagement starts with listening. I want to understand your current landscape, your scientists' workflows, and where things are quietly breaking down.

Sometimes the problem requires a different process. I'm comfortable having that conversation, and pushing for changes in ways of working when the evidence points that way.

Larger organisations often face the real challenge of fragmentation of the solution landscape. Departments have their own systems, their own needs, and over time the landscape becomes a patchwork. Connecting those pieces takes more than APIs. It takes an understanding of how the science flows through the organisation, from experimental design in R&D all the way through to downstream reporting.

/ 01

LIMS / ELN implementation

From vendor selection and business process analysis through to configuration, validation, and go-live. I have hands-on experience with LabVantage® and Sapio in both GxP and non-GxP environments, including computerised systems validation according to GAMP5 and 21 CFR Part 11 .

  • Business process analysis with scientists
  • Vendor evaluation & RFP support
  • Master data
  • Configuration over customisation
  • URS and Risk-based validation strategy
  • IQ/OQ/PQ support
  • User acceptance testing & training
/ 02

API Development & System Integration

Designing and building the integration layer that connects your lab informatics landscape, including instruments, LIMS, ELN, and the data infrastructure around them. I favour modular, loosely coupled architectures that don't create new maintenance headaches.

  • Python API development
  • Azure & cloud integration
  • Asynchronous messaging & event-driven pipelines
  • DevOps & CI/CD setup
  • Full-stack web application development
/ 03

Scientific Data Management

From raw instrument output to structured, traceable records. I help organisations standardise how scientific data flows and reduce the manual handling that quietly eats into scientist time and introduces transcription errors.

  • Instrument integration & automated data capture
  • HPLC and Chromeleon™ CDS workflows
  • Automated liquid handlers
  • SDMS vendor evaluation, configuration & deployment
  • FAIR data principles
  • Connectivity with LIMS / ELN solutions
/ 04

R&D Platform Architecture

Technical leadership for internal R&D platforms: discovery tools, ordering systems, compound registries. When every team builds their own solution, the result is a landscape that nobody can navigate. I bring structure to that: coherent data models that hold up as your organisation grows.

  • Ontology modelling & knowledge graphs
  • Semantic data models
  • Solution architecture & technical roadmapping
  • RfP writing, vendor evaluation
/ 05

AI integration in your lab

Introducing AI into a lab takes more than a Co-Pilot subscription. Useful AI output depends entirely on what's underneath it. How is your data is structured? Where does it live? Is it clean enough to reason over? I help organisations build that foundation before committing to a model.

  • Data engineering for AI readiness
  • RAG pipelines on scientific data
  • MCP server setup
  • Local & private LLM deployment

Consulting & Digital Transformation Advisory

Not sure where to start? Sometimes the most useful thing is a clear picture of where you are. I work with teams to map their current processes, identify the highest-value interventions, and build a realistic roadmap, without overselling complexity you don't need.

  • Business process analysis and current-state process mapping
  • System landscape review
  • Roadmap & prioritisation workshops
